Abridge Expands AI Nursing Platform to More Than 250 Health Systems
Abridge has announced general availability of Abridge for Nurses across its network of more than 250 health system partners, extending ambient AI documentation beyond physicians to the nursing workforce for the first time at scale.

Abridge, the ambient AI clinical documentation company backed by a partnership with Epic and used across major academic medical centers, has announced the general availability of Abridge for Nurses — extending its AI documentation platform beyond physicians to the nursing workforce for the first time at scale. The product is now live across more than 250 health system partners, including Johns Hopkins Medicine and Kaiser Permanente.[1]
The expansion marks a significant broadening of Abridge's addressable market. While the company built its initial reputation on physician-facing ambient documentation — listening to patient encounters and generating structured clinical notes — nurses represent a substantially larger workforce with their own distinct documentation requirements, including nursing assessments, care plans, and shift handoffs.[2]
Scale and Reach
Abridge has become one of the most widely deployed ambient AI platforms in U.S. healthcare. The company added approximately 150 health systems in the past year alone, bringing its total to more than 250 partners. The platform now processes more than 100 million doctor visits' worth of conversation data, according to reporting from Latent Space.[3] CNBC named Abridge to its 2026 Disruptor 50 list, citing the company's rapid expansion and its integration into Epic's EHR workflow as a key competitive advantage.[4]
The Nursing Documentation Problem
Nursing documentation is one of the most time-intensive administrative burdens in healthcare. Studies have found that nurses spend between 25% and 40% of their shift time on documentation — time that could otherwise be spent on direct patient care. The nursing shortage, which the American Association of Colleges of Nursing projects will persist through the end of the decade, makes every hour of administrative time a direct cost to patient access and safety.[5]
Abridge for Nurses addresses this by applying the same ambient listening and structured note generation approach used for physicians to nursing-specific workflows. The system generates nursing assessments, SBAR handoffs, and care plan updates from recorded clinical conversations, formatted to the health system's EHR templates.
Competitive Landscape
Abridge competes with Nabla, Nuance DAX, Suki AI, DeepScribe, and Ambience Healthcare in the ambient documentation market. The decision to expand into nursing-specific workflows gives Abridge a potential differentiation point in health system procurement conversations, where nursing administration and physician leadership often make purchasing decisions jointly.
