A new partnership between a Malaysian AI technology company and the research arm of the country's premier cardiac institute aims to advance autonomous artificial intelligence applications in healthcare, with an initial focus on cardiovascular and thoracic medicine.

Singularity Connect Sdn Bhd and IJN Research Sdn Bhd—the research division of Institut Jantung Negara—signed a memorandum of understanding at the National Innovation and Commercialisation Expo 2026 (NICE 2026) in Kuala Lumpur. The collaboration seeks to develop and commercialize agentic AI platforms designed to support healthcare professionals and improve patient outcomes.

Combining AI Capabilities with Clinical Excellence

The partnership brings together Singularity Connect's artificial intelligence expertise with IJN Research's clinical knowledge and advanced digital infrastructure. According to Prof Dato' Dr Suhaini bin Kadiman, Chief Research & Innovation Officer of IJN Research, the institute has achieved HIMSS EMRAM Stage 7 certification—the highest level of digital maturity in healthcare information systems—a distinction that positions the institute to support sophisticated AI implementation.

Ahmad Fauzi bin Ali, Group CEO of Singularity Connect, emphasized the need to combine technology with clinical expertise. "Healthcare is one of the areas where artificial intelligence has the potential to create meaningful and measurable impact, but technology alone is not enough. It needs to be developed alongside deep clinical expertise, real-world healthcare understanding and strong research capabilities," he stated.

He added: "Our collaboration with IJN Research brings these elements together. Through this partnership, we aim to demonstrate how Agentic AI can be applied responsibly and practically to support healthcare professionals, research and ultimately better health outcomes. It also reflects our broader focus at Singularity Connect on putting AI to work in industries where it can create real value."

The initiative will employ multidisciplinary teams comprising medical professionals, developers, data scientists, statisticians, and bioinformaticians to develop outcome-focused AI platforms with responsible governance.

Human-Centered AI Development

Prof Dato' Dr Suhaini emphasized the partnership's commitment to maintaining the human element in healthcare. "Healthcare is fundamentally human, and AI should strengthen — not replace — that human connection. At IJN Research, we believe the future lies in combining clinical expertise and human judgement with responsible, explainable AI to deliver better decisions and better patient outcomes," he said.

He noted that "IJN's strong and well-structured clinical data ecosystem, integrated digital workflows and recent achievement of HIMSS EMRAM Stage 7 — the highest level of digital maturity — provide a strong foundation for this ambition."

The collaboration aims to "harness Agentic AI to transform trusted clinical data into actionable intelligence while keeping clinicians and patients at the centre of every innovation," with the ultimate goal to "develop home-grown, human-centred healthcare AI that can be clinically validated in Malaysia and scaled across the region and beyond."

From Research to Market

The collaboration also involves Malaysian Research Accelerator for Technology and Innovation (MRANTI) and other innovation partners, reflecting a broader ecosystem approach to healthcare AI development. Where appropriate, the partners may work with MRANTI to support the journey from research and technology development to practical implementation and commercialization.

The MoU signing took place at NICE 2026, an event organized by Malaysia's Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) under the theme "Mission to Market. Malaysia to the World." This national platform underscores the government's emphasis on translating research innovations into commercial applications with global reach.

The MoU establishes a framework for the two organizations to explore potential areas of cooperation, with specific programs, projects, and commercial initiatives to be developed and agreed by both parties in due course.
