Clinisys, a global laboratory informatics provider serving more than 7,000 laboratories worldwide, has released an AI Innovation Roadmap that establishes an open, governed platform strategy to embed artificial intelligence, analytics, and workflow automation into laboratory operations. The announcement marks a strategic shift toward interoperable AI systems that allow laboratories to incrementally adopt autonomous capabilities while maintaining clinical control and avoiding vendor lock-in.

The roadmap outlines a four-phase architectural evolution from System of Record to autonomous System of Orchestration, introducing two foundational technologies alongside specialized laboratory agents designed to address specific operational challenges in clinical, diagnostic, and life sciences settings.

Open Foundation Technologies for Enterprise AI Integration

At the core of Clinisys's strategy are two open foundation technologies designed to democratize AI adoption across laboratory environments. The CLS Model Context Protocol (MCP) adopts an emerging MCP standard for connecting enterprise AI assistants to laboratory information with organizational permissions, guardrails, and auditability. This approach enables controlled integration of AI systems with laboratory information systems using governance and security controls that address healthcare compliance requirements.

CLS NoCode AI provides pre-built components enabling frontline lab teams to configure automated workflows—including reflex testing, result verification, and corrective actions—without coding expertise. According to the announcement, this foundation allows laboratory professionals to standardize best practices across facilities and reduce manual workload through workflow automation accessible to non-programmers.

Specialized Agents Target Analytics and Equipment Efficiency

Clinisys previewed two initial agent experiences designed for specific laboratory operational domains. The Analytics Agent offers a conversational interface for authorized personnel to query, visualize, analyze, export, and schedule governed datasets, potentially streamlining data access for laboratory decision-makers.

The Equipment Care Agent evaluates analyzer activity, quality-control metrics, and maintenance logs for early mechanical issue detection and rerun elimination. By identifying potential analyzer problems before they result in failed tests, this agent addresses operational efficiency challenges that lead to avoidable test reruns and workflow delays.

Both agents are built on the Clinisys Laboratory Solution Extended API and shared platform services. The company plans to launch a Clinisys AI Marketplace to distribute certified agents, skills, and third-party extensions, expanding the ecosystem beyond internally developed tools.

Phased Maturity Model Spans Descriptive to Agentic AI

The roadmap defines three operational maturity stages that laboratories can progress through incrementally. The Inform stage provides descriptive insights from existing data. The Optimize stage introduces predictive analytics and anomaly detection capabilities. The Transform stage enables agentic workflow orchestration with human-in-the-loop oversight, representing the most autonomous operational model.

According to Shay Hassidim, CTO at Clinisys, and Prashant Prabudh, Director of AI Analytics and Agentic Platforms, this phased approach allows organizations to align AI adoption with their current capabilities and build on previous platform investments rather than requiring wholesale system replacement.

The roadmap targets five outcome domains: Workflow Copilots, Advanced Analytics, specimen and turnaround-time Orchestration, the AI Marketplace, and an Intelligent Lab Command Center. Each domain represents a specific operational challenge that the platform architecture is designed to address through progressively sophisticated AI capabilities.
