In my two-decade+ career in healthcare, I've never lost perspective that we work in an industry where success means we've had a meaningful effect on someone's health, and maybe even helped that person live longer. I'm honored to work with my colleagues to continue our fight against kidney disease and to make a positive impact for patients and their families.
Mark Toland is the CEO of MMI SpA. Before joining MMI, Mark served as the President and CEO of Corindus where he transformed the company into the industry leader in vascular robotics with the only approved system for coronary, peripheral and neurovascular indications. The Siemens Healthineers acquisition of Corindus for $1.1 billion was the fifth largest medical technology acquisition of 2019. Prior to Corindus, Mark served as Senior Vice President of Boston Scientific, where he built the company’s global solutions business and led all aspects of the U.S. commercial team’s cardiovascular businesses, which represented approximately $4 billion in revenue. Mark brings over 25 years of medical device experience to MMI. In addition, he serves on the Board of Directors for Moon Surgical, a surgical robotics company, Cardiologs, a cardiovascular AI company, and Amplitude Vascular Systems, an Intravascular Lithotripsy company. He also serves as a partner and EIR at Biostar Capital, a healthcare focused Venture Capital firm. Mr. Toland holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Louisville.
Through excellent communication and relationship with inventors, investors, team members and key medical opinion leaders, in an international and extremely dynamic environment, I strive to accelerate market access for innovative medical devices and create unprecedented value for my organization and the startups or projects I contribute to with constant engagement and reliability.
With expertise in medical device sales, I’m a high performing executive sales leader known for formulating and executing scalable strategies to accelerate business expansion, revenue generation, and team development in startup, turnaround, and rapid-growth environments across domestic and global markets. When I was promoted to Vice President of U.S. Sales at Accelus, the company had recently experienced a merger. I developed growth strategies, established new territories, and built a sales team from the ground up that aligned innovative robotic navigation platforms and dual expandable implant products to ortho and neuro spine surgeons. I led our team to increase sales revenue from $17M in 2020 to $26M in 2021 and we’re on target to achieve $40M in sales for 2022. As a trusted advisor to C-level executive decision makers, I turn complex business problems into opportunities for improvement that benefit all parties, take a consultative approach to selling, and boast a significant international network of surgeons. I fostered relationships with executive-level decision makers and distributors in the U.S. east coast territory while Director of Sales – East at Joimax. My efforts contributed to growing the territory to ultimately account for over 40% of the company’s entire sales revenue by expanding the organization’s footprint to target underserved areas. I’m a mission-centric professional known for representing brands through public speaking and published articles, developing top talent, demonstrating leadership excellence, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. As helping others achieve their goals is a priority for me, I’ve coached and mentored multiple direct reports to obtain senior level positions. If you’re looking to network with an executive sales leader who ramps up revenue, builds high performing teams, and demonstrates emotional intelligence, I welcome you to connect with me. I love to build the impossible. My approach combines deep engineering capability with a design thinking mindset—blending precision, creativity, and curiosity to identify the right clinical problems and turn them into reality. Whether through hands-on prototyping or leading high-performance teams, I’ve consistently delivered solutions that bridge clinical need and technical execution. Over the past two decades, I’ve helped define, develop, and launch over 24 medical devices, including seven surgical robotic systems—five of which have been used in humans and four launched commercially. I’ve led four platforms through first-in-human trials. I was employee #1 at Auris Health, where I helped shape the product architecture and led early development. I’ve also built and scaled programs at Hansen Medical and now Moon Surgical, where we’re redefining the role of robotics in soft tissue surgery. Robotic systems I’ve built include: 1 microsurgical robot for ophthalmology 1 vascular robotic system 2 endolumenal robots for urology 1 robotic bronchoscopy platform 1 soft tissue surgical platform From pre-formation through commercialization and financing, I’ve operated across every phase of company building—always with a focus on creating meaningful clinical value through purposeful engineering. I hold a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer and an MBA from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley. Along the way, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the journey—and love to guide, coach, and support other entrepreneurs and operators building ambitious things.
