About Hyperfine
Hyperfine, Inc. (Nasdaq: HYPR) is a groundbreaking health technology company that has redefined brain imaging with the Swoop system—the first FDA-cleared, portable, ultra-low-field magnetic resonance brain imaging system capable of providing imaging at multiple points of care in healthcare facilities. Founded in 2014 by serial entrepreneur Jonathan Rothberg, PhD, Hyperfine's mission is to revolutionize patient care globally through transformational, accessible, clinically relevant diagnostic imaging and data solutions. The Swoop system is an AI-powered portable brain MRI that uses a magnet with a fraction of the field strength (0.064T) used in conventional MRI. This breakthrough enables the device to be brought to the point of care and used safely in almost any care setting without the need for dedicated staff or infrastructure. Simply plugging into a standard outlet, the system is ready to use in minutes and can be operated by any trained healthcare professional. Powered by Optive AI software, the Swoop system brings advanced, AI-driven image reconstruction to ultra-low-field portable MRI, reducing noise and blur with deep learning to enhance image clarity and consistency. The system provides diagnostic-quality imaging across multiple sequences including T1, T2, FLAIR, and DWI in axial, coronal, and sagittal planes. Its open design and quieter operation enhance patient comfort and reduce anxiety, while eliminating exposure to ionizing radiation. Hyperfine serves hospitals (ICU and emergency departments), neurology clinics, and pediatric facilities, making advanced brain imaging accessible where it was previously unavailable. The company partners with charitable foundations including the Gates Foundation and Raising Malawi to deploy portable MRI technology in low- and medium-income countries, addressing critical needs in early brain development monitoring and neurological disease diagnosis in underserved populations.
Mission & Story
Mission
Our mission is to revolutionize patient care globally through transformational, accessible, clinically relevant diagnostic imaging, and data solutions.
Founding Story
Hyperfine was founded in 2014 by Jonathan Rothberg, PhD, a serial entrepreneur and the founder or co-founder of numerous innovative companies. With a vision to save lives by making magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) more accessible and affordable, Rothberg and a team of scientists and engineers set out to put MRI within reach of every patient regardless of location. While the Hyperfine team retained the fundamental principles and core components of MRI, they turned nearly everything else on its head, designing the Swoop system for simplicity while leveraging advances in image-centric computing, deep learning, and the ten-million-fold increase in computing power since the invention of MRI technology over 40 years ago. Hyperfine produced the first Swoop system MR brain images within a year of its founding.
