I grew up around healthcare with my father a doctor and my mother a nurse. The same desire to provide great patient care I saw in my parents was instilled in me. I wanted to do something impactful to make a difference. My early idea was to go into bio-mechanical engineering. In engineering school I realized I was made to be around people. I decided to change my major and go into business. Fast forward to 2009, I was already well into my aspiring career in Financial Planning. I was working with individuals and business to help create lasting financial legacies. I joined a Senior Partner at the firm whose vision matched my passions. We created Wealth and Legacy Solutions to increase endowments for non-profit organizations. During this time I went through a leadership program, and met an executive in the Health Information Technology field who tried recruiting me to his company. To be honest, I was not interested. I had a fantastic business arrangement and was doing quite well. However, it seemed like we were trying to bail out a boat with a tea-spoon. We just were not getting to the non-profits fast enough. All at once, everything was up in the air. First, the senior partner had a change in direction with his own career and decided to exit the business. Second, on December 8, 2009 on a bone chilling afternoon, I was hit by a drunk driver. I sustained torn ligaments and tendons in my upper neck and lower back from the whiplash. Over the course of the next 2 years I realized my transition care from one doctor to another was terrible. Multiple redundant tests were ordered, and I had to act like my own health information exchange; physically bringing all my charts from one care provider to another. I knew there had to be a better way. I took up the original offer to be part of the health care solution. Now I am passionate about adding value to how health care is delivered today.

I am passionate about creating and executing communications strategies that align with the vision, values, and objectives of my clients and stakeholders. I am driven by the opportunity to make a positive difference in the world through effective and strategic communications.
I am an active clinician scientist with 25% clinical time and 75% research time. I have chaired the Type 1 Diabetes Exchange Clinic Registry, and currently serve as data science co-lead for the Type 1 Diabetes Exchange Quality Improvement Collaborative. I lead our hospital's TrialNet Clinical Center and I lead many clinical trials in type 1 diabetes. I also lead a large project to evaluate the utility of advanced machine learning natural language processing and deep learning used to predict near-term outcomes in diabetes. I marry those predictions to quality improvement-based interventions to improve diabetes care. In May 2019 I also became Chief Medical Officer of Glooko, Inc. Above and beyond all else, I solve problems.
