About GAUSS SURGICAL

Gauss Surgical was a medical device company headquartered in Menlo Park, California, that developed Triton, an artificial intelligence-enabled platform for real-time monitoring of blood loss during surgery. The company was founded to address the longstanding challenge of visual estimation of blood loss, which has remained a notoriously inaccurate and imprecise standard of care since the advent of modern surgery. Triton technology demonstrated improvements in maternal and surgical care through earlier recognition of hemorrhage leading to earlier intervention. The platform was particularly focused on addressing post-partum hemorrhage, which affects up to 5% of mothers and is the leading cause of maternal death globally, with studies suggesting that 70% of these deaths are preventable. The Joint Commission identified prevention, early recognition, and timely treatment of maternal hemorrhage as having the highest impact on decreasing maternal complications. In September 2021, Gauss Surgical was acquired by Stryker, a leading global medical technology company. The acquisition brought Triton technology under Stryker's Instruments division, with the goal of improving industry standards for quantifying blood loss in labor and delivery departments. In conjunction with the acquisition, Gauss Surgical spun off its home diagnostics business into a new company called Exa Health.
