About Distalmotion

Distalmotion is a Swiss medical robotics company dedicated to empowering access to the benefits of robotic surgery. The company develops the DEXTER Robotic Surgery System, which uniquely simplifies surgical operations to enable more surgeons in more operating rooms to provide the benefits of robotics to more patients. By removing operational barriers to surgical robotics, Distalmotion aims to ensure that more surgeons in more sites of care can provide patients with best-in-class minimally invasive surgery. Founded in 2012 as a spin-off from the Robotics Lab of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL), Distalmotion developed DEXTER in collaboration with expert teaching centers and clinicians. The system received CE mark approval in 2020 for Urology, Gynecology, and General Surgery procedures. In the United States, DEXTER is cleared for adult inguinal hernia repair, cholecystectomy, total benign hysterectomy, oophorectomy, salpingectomy, and combinations of these procedures. The system performed its first clinical cases in 2021 and is now treating patients daily. DEXTER integrates into existing surgical workflows while maintaining surgeon-patient connection and compatibility with preferred technologies, making it particularly suitable for outpatient facilities and diverse care settings.
