BACKGROUND: Ischaemia is a critical complication, and can result in poor surgical outcomes. While intra-operative overt ischaemia can be perceived with the naked eye, timely recognition of borderline perfusion can prevent post-operative ischaemic complications, which is particularly relevant for colorectal anastomoses.
